Biography of father
Georges Finet
- Spiritual father
of Marthe Robin
- and founder
of the Foyers de Charity.
Birth : 6th September 1898,
at Cusset (Rhône).
Baptism : 8th September 1898.
Studies : Secondary with
the Carthusians at Lyon.
- Seminary : In 1915 at the
French Seminary in Rome where he remained for one year.
- Called up,
he did two years of war and a year of occupation.
- 28th December
1919 : demobilized, he returned to the French Seminary in Rome
where he finished his philosophy studies and then did his theology.
Ordination
to the priesthood
: 8th July 1923 in the Carthusian chapel at Lyon, by His Eminence
Cardinal Maurin.

: Curate at Oullins (Rhône)
- 1924-1933
: Curate at St John's Cathedral in Lyon.
- From 1933
: Assistant Director of Catholic Teaching.
Foundation
of the Work of the Foyers de Charité : whose first mission is the preaching
of retreats.
- - 7th September
1936 : preaching of the first retreat at the little school which
had been founded in 1934 by the parish priest of Châteauneuf,
at the request of Marthe Robin.
- - 1939-1940
: mobilized as reserve officer.
- - From 1936
to 1943 : father Finet continues his ministry in Lyon at the
same time as preaching retreats at Châteauneuf.
- - 1940-1947
: Construction of the Foyer to receive retreatants.
- - Pentecost
Monday 1948 : inauguration of the Foyer by Bishop Pic, bishop
of Valence.
Extension
of the Work
- - from 1943,
other Foyers de Charité open in France and then in Europe.
- - from 1959-60,
The Foyers de Charité open in Africa, Latin America and
Asia.
- - 6th February
1981 : death of Marthe Robin.
- - 9th February
1986 : Fiftieth Anniversary of the Foyers de Charité.
- - 1st November
1986 : Decree of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, recognizing
the Work of the Foyers de Charité. At present there are
more than 70 Foyers in the world.
Death of
father Finet
: On Easter Saturday 14th April 1990, at Châteauneuf de
Galaure, in the Drôme.
